He has traveled down for FGO performances in the past and has written some very nice things about them and the orchestra.
(Anna Karenina) The Florida Classical Orchestra played beautifully under conductor Stewart Roberston, a masterful director who knows how to accompany singers and at the same time make certain that the orchestra has an independent life of its own. It’s hard to see how Carlson’s music could have been much better realized than it was here.

3. Florida Grand Opera, Anna Karenina. In May, a brand-new opera, written specifically for this Miami company by the American composer David Carlson. Set to Leo Tolstoy’s great novel, this is a fine post-Romantic opera that should offer ambitious companies a chance to freshen up their repertory. The Florida Grand production was lovingly done, with excellent singing by a good cast that could act, and did so amid pretty, autumnal sets that reflected the shadow of the story effectively. An important premiere, and a coup for this venerable company.
